The 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting will be held jointly July 3-8, 2011, at the Spokane Convention Center and the Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington, USA. The symposium and meeting are cosponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and the U.S. National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (USNC/URSI) Commissions A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and K. The joint meeting is intended to provide an international forum for the exchange of information on state of-the-art research in the areas of antennas, propagation, electromagnetic engineering, and radio science. Technical sessions will be held over a four-day period from July 4 through July 7, and workshops and short courses will occur on July 3 and July 8.
The Spokane Convention Center is located on the southern bank of the Spokane River, adjacent to the 100-acre Riverfront Park in the heart of downtown Spokane. It is within walking distance of fine dining, exquisite hotels, and a wide variety of shopping and entertainment, the latter including a 3D IMAX theater in Riverfront Park. The Davenport Hotel, located a few blocks from the Center, is an architectural masterpiece, dating back to 1914. The Davenport recently underwent a complete renovation, preserving its original breathtaking public spaces and creating luxurious, elegant, and modern guest rooms.
Spokane, Washington, is the second largest city in Washington State, and the largest city between Seattle and Minneapolis. It is home to more than 200,000 residents with a metropolitan population of over 500,000. Spokane International Airport (code GEG) is served by ten airlines and is located approximately 10 km from downtown Spokane. During the month of July, the weather is warm and dry with average low and high temperatures of 55°F/13°C and 82°F/28°C, respectively. The mild climate, long daylight hours (sunset occurs just before 9:00 p.m.), and surrounding pristine countryside, mountains, lakes, and rivers make Spokane an ideal place for family holidays. Four National Parks (Glacier, Olympic, Mount Rainier, and North Cascades) and numerous national forests lie within a six-hour drive. Spokane also provides ready access to many of Canada’s scenic wonders including Banff, Jasper, and Waterton Lakes National Parks.
